In fact, the technology works poorly and produces dubious results. This is what caught the attention of users who started making memes with fun results.

Origin of Which Celebrity Do You Look Like memes

The test «Which celebrity do you look like?» appeared on the Korean entertainment site Vonvon on March 17th, 2017. The application quickly became viral among users. Not because of its realism, but because it produced drawn results. So, if you upload a photo of a black man, dog or woman from China, the application will still show that you look like Leonardo DiCaprio or Margot Robbie. It seems that there is not much celebrity in its database, and therefore everyone sees the same final pictures.

On March 25th, rediditor  thewhaler1 posted one of the first memes related to this test. He compared the photo of Kim Kardashian with the Penguin from the Marvel comics.

After that, they forgot about the site for a while. But in August 2019th, the application became viral again. It all started with a picture in which a Staring Hamster meme turned out to be like Robert Downey Jr. Memers found potential in this format and began to make other funny pictures.
